The 41st Annual Rose Palmai-Tenser Vocal Competition
Semi-Final and Final Rounds

May 21, 22, 2007

REQUIREMENTS

  • The competition is open to all singers who are between the ages of 20 and 30 as of May 20, 2007, and are legal residents of the United States.
  • All applications must include a recent audio recording (CD preferred) of two (2) arias in contrasting styles.
  • The top 20 singers will be invited to the Semi-Final Round based on the adjudication of an audio recording of two (2) contrasting styles.
  • During the Semi-Final and Final Rounds, May 21st and 22nd, singers will be required to present four (4) arias of contrasting styles.
  • Arias must be presented in the original language and the original key signature.
  • A non-refundable application fee of $50.00 is required of all applicants.
  • Must be registered 1 hour prior to the beginning of the competition

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Former first place winners of the Rose Palmai-Tenser Scholarship Competition are not eligible to compete.
  • Having performed a major role or being currently under contract in a major role with Mobile Opera, Inc. disqualifies an applicant from competition.
  • All contestants will be given consideration for casting in future Mobile Opera productions as well as for the companies represented by the panel of judges.
  • During the Semi-Final Round, the contestants will perform two of their four arias. The first will be selected by the contestant with the second selected by the panel of judges.
  • During the Final Round, the contestants will perform two of their four arias. The two arias will be selected by the panel of judges.
  • The Rose Palmai-Tenser Competition Committee will provide an accompanist to the semi-final and final contestants for an additional, non-refundable fee of $25.00. The $25.00 fee will include a 15 minute rehearsal during the Semi-Final and Final Rounds. This fee is due upon acceptance to the competition.
  • The Rose Palmai-Tenser Competition Committee reserves the right to disqualify contestants for any misrepresentation on the application or resume.
  • Incomplete applications will not be processed and applications or parts of applications will not be accepted by fax or e-mail.
  • Audio materials become the property of the Rose Palmai-Tenser Committee and may be used to promote the competition.

Please complete the application and send it along with the following materials:

  1. your resume and narrative biography
  2. a recent recording of 2 contrasting arias
  3. a photo suitable for publicity purposes (8x10)
  4. proof of age (copy of driver’s license or birth certificate)
  5. typed list of four arias you will present for the Semi-Final and Final Rounds (if advanced)
  6. your payment in the form of Certified Check or Money Order made payable to “Rose Palmai-Tenser Scholarship Competition”
